Eliminating the Stigma that Comes with Mental Health Among Boys and Young Men

by Nathalie Diaz

Coming from a background where the two most important men in my life are my father and my older brother, I have definitely noticed the stigma that comes with the mental health of men and young boys. This stigma is not okay at all. From a young age, it teaches men that being “manly” means not showing feelings and repressing emotions. The further effect of this stigma results in men being more susceptible to becoming depressed and having other mental health problems. I feel the need to spotlight this topic because I have experienced firsthand the horrible reality of having someone so close to you suffering from depression. I just feel the need to promote the idea of good mental health, especially in young boys and men.
